From what I understand, the ps5 will play most ps4 games.

Personally I don't see an actual reason to get a ps5. There's little to no games. Not sure if all ps4 games are supported. Not to mention the guys scamming others by buying up the ps5. Then again I mostly use my PC. And mostly for anything but shitty AAA games. So even if it's on the lower end compared to some others I easily got my money's worth out of it and am willing to upgrade slightly it in a year or so. That way it's still up to date without it having to cost to much. Since I still most likely won't buy overly expensive triple a games that are honestly not looking worth the money. Not to mention how certain studios treat their employees and customers. (For example: Ea, ubisoft, activision, Warner bros)

For an long term investment ps5 is better of course. But taking in consideration the price and also the fact that it's hard to get your hands on one, it is going to be a problematic decision.
